This lecture presents a comprehensive overview of how generative artificial intelligence can enhance learning and research in higher education. It introduces the evolving role of AI in academia, outlines key opportunities and challenges, and demonstrates how students and instructors can use AI tools responsibly, critically, and ethically.The presentation illustrates how AI can support all stages of the research process, from ideation and literature searching to analysis, writing, and reference management, and highlights a range of practical tools for text processing, data analysis, visualisation, and academic writing.
Emphasis is placed on AI literacy, transparency, and academic integrity, supported by recent findings on students’ use of AI and the ethical and technical issues that accompany increased automation.
