Description
In this presentation, Sigurbjörg Jóhannesdóttir shares her experience using artificial intelligence as a personal assistant in the development of an online course on distance education and digital teaching practices, as part of the European project PLACEDU. The work builds on research findings based on mobile ethnography and focus group interviews, guided by the European DigCompEdu digital competence framework for educators. Sigurbjörg describes her personal journey exploring and evaluating various AI tools—such as ChatGPT, Bing Chat Enterprise, Google Bard, and Copilot—to design a self-study module for university teachers. The talk discusses the strengths and limitations of these tools and how AI can support education when used appropriately—especially in fostering social presence, engagement, and interaction in distance learning. The presentation offers insights into how educators can train AI systems with specific prompts and materials to become personalized assistants, while also emphasizing the continued importance of critical thinking in AI-supported educational design.| Period | 8 Dec 2023 |
