Description
This presentation explores the use and challenges of generative AI in teaching at the University of Iceland in 2025. The findings are based on a survey of academic staff, combining both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The results show that teachers use AI across a wide range of activities, including idea generation, teaching preparation, assessment, and data analysis. AI is also used to support personalized learning and the development of teaching materials. At the same time, teachers face several challenges, including a lack of knowledge, limited support, and the absence of clear frameworks for AI use in education. Ethical concerns are also prominent, such as data privacy, bias, misinformation, and potential misuse by students. The findings highlight the need for structured support, policy development, and training to ensure the responsible and effective use of AI in higher education teaching.
