Power:
The current debates on climate and energy question traditional profiles of architecture, art and engineering. Today, architects, landscape designers, artists, and urban practitioners still seem to perpetuate the heritage of the 20th century and with it the regime of carbon modernity. Yet they are also in a unique position to shift discourse and practice toward large-scale transformation. Practices change and with it curricula in academia.
Relating to his current exhibition “POWER” at CIVA in Brussels Nikolaus Hirsch proposes new practices between architecture and art that aim for social and environmental relevance. He presents a multifaceted and transdisciplinary practice that is based on the reciprocity between different formats: building, exhibition, books, online platform, symposia, performances, talks and workshops.

Nikolaus Hirsch is an architect, curator, editor, and educator, merging different formats and categories into a unique transdisciplinary spatial practice. He is currently the artistic director of CIVA in Brussels.

He is the author of the books “On Boundaries” (2007), "Institution Building" (2009), “Cybermohalla Hub” (2012), and co-editor of the Critical Spatial Practice series at Sternberg Press and co-founder of e-flux architecture, which developed into a leading platform for spatial discourse.
The open class is a part of the the second-year architecture studio „Urban Lab. Borgarýni“ in LHÍ led by Sahar Ghaderi & Karl Kvaran.
Nikolaus Hirsch, will give a talk for about an hour that will be continued by a little discussion with students and other architects.
