Teachers’ Attitudes Toward the Use of Artificial Intelligence

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

This presentation examines teachers’ attitudes toward the use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning at the University of Iceland in 2025. The findings are based on a survey combining quantitative and qualitative data. The results indicate that teachers are generally positive toward AI and recognize its potential to support teaching and learning, particularly in areas such as course preparation, content development, and idea generation.

Teachers are also largely supportive of students using AI to enhance their learning, for example in searching for information, engaging with course materials, and preparing assignments. However, there is greater skepticism regarding the use of AI for writing tasks and independent student work.

The findings further reveal concerns about the impact of AI on the depth of learning, critical thinking, and academic integrity. Despite the overall positive attitudes, the results highlight the need for clear guidelines, ethical considerations, and institutional support to ensure responsible use of AI in higher education.
