Voices of University of Iceland Teachers in the Digital Transformation. AI at UI: Status, Attitudes, and Future Prospects

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

At the seminar, the findings of a study on attitudes, use, and challenges related to artificial intelligence in teaching and learning at the University of Iceland were presented.

The study was based on quantitative and qualitative analysis of teachers’ responses, which shed light on how they used AI in their work, what concerns they had, and what kind of support they considered most urgent.

The lecture addressed, among other things:
- The scope and nature of AI use in teaching, preparation, and assessment
- Teachers’ attitudes toward their own use and students’ use of AI
- Concerns about critical thinking, academic integrity, and the quality of learning
- Misuse and challenges related to the use of AI
- The need for a clear framework, guidelines, and targeted training

It also discussed what the University of Iceland could do to support the responsible and professional implementation of AI in teaching, and how the gap between concerns and practical solutions could be bridged.
