Research interests

Anna Sigríður Jóhannsdóttir is an architect, researcher, and Associate Professor at the Iceland University of the Arts, with professional experience in Iceland and Germany. She was educated at the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark and worked for over two decades as co-owner of VA Arkitektar in Iceland. Her expertise lies in sustainable architecture and planning. She is a founding and board member of the Green Building Council Iceland and the author of Dagsbirta sem vistvænn birtugjafi(2014) (Daylight as a Sustainable Source of Light).

Her research focuses on architecture and urban planning guided by human well-being, with particular emphasis on the impact of daylight. Her recent research, Dagsbirta í íbúðabyggð við íslenskar aðstæður, presents a detailed examination of daylight quality in residential areas, combining quantitative analysis with a theoretical assessment of the importance of well-designed daylight conditions in architecture and urban planning. As an educator holding a diploma in higher education pedagogy, she has also conducted research on the professional education of architects and planners.

She teaches architecture and planning at the Department of Architecture at the Iceland University of the Arts (IUA) and at the Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI), Department of Planning and Design. Her architectural emphasis is on spatial design and the effects of form-making, the impact of architecture on human well-being, and, more broadly, the role of sustainability in architecture and planning.
