Abstract
The term ‘amphibious’ needs to be understood as force that connects earthlings and their natural and built environment. If architects are to find effective solutions to the most pressing problems of the 21st century they will need to learn to be amphibious and re-design the way we engage with the world. Venice constitutes an important lesson for the future of humanity, as its values resides in its capacity of becoming one another both in natural terms land and water and in bringing together diverse people and cultures.
