Abstract

This paper surveys the status of electric power quality, electrical system reliability and the organization and management of electrical safety in Iceland. The currently employed power quality methodology and standards are reviewed. A description of current reliability levels and methodologies is presented for various parts of the power system. Finally the recent fundamental deregulation and reform regarding management of electrical safety is reviewed. The new methodology emphasizes internal quality management and safety systems for electrical contractors and utilities, and privatization in testing and inspection with renewed responsibilities and roles for electrical contractors, utilities and the energy consumer.
