Basic course in Revit

Abstract

It is very important to have Knowledge in BIM and Revit for our students in architecture and Design. Therefor I have suggested this course, the descirption of the course and a professional teacher for our University as OPNI LHÍ to begin with. The school provides a computer Lab and brings support regarding Window´s program and Autodesk software.

Here is the description of the course:
This course provides architects and designers with basic skills in Autodesk Revit and the information models of structures (BIM). Students first get an overview of the user interface and the main tools in Revit, learn about the environment in the software as well as create and edit a simple information model, export in IFC file format and install drawings, format and divide.

The teaching takes place in the computer room in Stakkahlíð 1, students get access to a computer and Revit during the course.

The basics of BIM – including the development phase of building components (LOD), coordinated design data, coordination and collision analysis, and information management across the lifecycle of a building – are introduced at the beginning and reiterated throughout the course. Students get to know how the BIM process supports improved collaboration, increased quality of design data and informed decision-making.

Practical exercises include work with a Revit object, installing heights and views, additions and modifications of modules and drawing. Students also learn to integrate interdisciplinary data by importing and organizing files such as DWG drawings, and figuring out how architectural models fall into a combined BIM model.

The course takes place in five sessions and is divided into demonstrations, guiding procedures and project work. Between sessions, students solve short preparatory assignments supported by instructions and instructional videos.

At the end of the course, students can work safely in Revit, understand the main BIM concepts and participate in the BIM design process – which lays a solid foundation for further learning in digital and uniform design.
