Helmet use in Iceland

Abstract

In 1983 the Chief Medical Officer of Iceland proposed legalizing the use of helmets for cyclists 15 years and younger. The proposal was introduced to the parliament and the minister of justice every year. Finally, the majority at the parliament agreed and the minister of justice wrote regulations that came into force October 1, 1997.
