Student Project: A Clustered Sub GHz network of sensors for CO2soil flux monitoring

Abstract

In this paper, we report on undergraduate project. The project is centered on using an embedded IoT network to autonomously gather soil CO2 flux data in rural areas. The main objective of the project is introduce students to independent study and the design process of a practical measurement system. The project is divided into roughly two phases. The present report focuses on the first phase; background search, establishing needs and constraints, incremental design and hardware selection. A sub-optimal first prototype was developed in this project centered on an ARM Cortex M4 processor using the development platform LaunchpadTM CC1352P. A Nondispersive infrared sensor, Sunrise S11 from SenseairTM, equipped with optical solid-state and LED technology is used for measurements.
