The impact of climate change is by now obvious to most. With floods all over Europe, fire in other parts of the planet, hurricanes and sea-level rise around theworld, it is on us to get ready for applying the right decisions, following a program to adapt through the climate change and being prepared for protecting our planet, our values and our heritage.
Cultural and natural heritage can play an important role as a generator of solutions and bring awareness for climate change and emphasize reducing it. They can be a source of inspiration by outlining the strategies that have previously been used to adapt and survive and recover.
The 2019 ICOMOS report: “The future of our Past. Engaging Cultural Heritage in climate Action” raises the following questions:
How cultural heritage can be utilized to stress urgency about climate change?
What we can learn about adaptation and mitigation strategies from cultural heritage?
Role of cultural heritage in building community resilience to
climate change.
The aim of the symposium is to bring forward the cultural heritage potentials and find a vision, a framework and future action plans for protecting heritage, learning from them and reusing them during climate change.
